SOME FALL FOR SPRING

I'm a black/white/gray type of gal and after seeing the trends for Spring 2010, which is saturated with prints, denim and color, I felt a little scared. I'm still in the process of getting used to adding a little color in my wardrobe, but going all-out on color and prints is something I'm sure I cannot do... yet. So thank goodness for Rick Owens. Rick Owens Spring 2010 collection stayed true to its roots. No pretending, no surprises. It was everything we'd expect from a Rick Owens show: dark, edgy and monochromatic (and very much my style). Some fall looks have also managed to seep in his Spring looks, like the biker vests, blazers, fringe and jumpsuit but given of course Owens' genius geometric and asymmetrical treatment.

LANVIN FALL 09

A very noir ad from Lanvin. Fashion and black cats, these are two of my favorite things.

LET'S PLAY DRESS UP

Ever dreamed of being a stylist? Ever wanted to work for a magazine where you have unlimited access to clothes you can use for fashion shoots? Well, your fashion editorial dreams just came true my little pretties. Looklet gives you the chance to style your own models with a wide variety of clothes and accessories from actual retailers and designer brands. They have stuff from H&M to Vivienne Westwood, you'll go crazy puttig together different looks. Plus, you get to choose among different backgrounds and effects, put in your own little subtitle and, voila! Your very own fashion spread. It might not be the real thing, but it sure as hell beats the Barbies and paper dolls I used to play with when I was small. Warning: Get ready to throw away precious little minutes of your days because this website is very addictive. Don't say we didn't warn you.

SPRING DENIM

Spring 2010 collections are out and about. And among the designers who've already showcased their collections, our heart especially beats for Nicole and Michael Colovos's relaxed designs for Helmut Lang. The husband and wife team's ready-to-wear collection focused on the ever-reliable textile we call denim, which is great because we certainly need some calm after the crazy that is Fall 09. Here are a few of our favorites pieces:

FASHION'S NIGHT OUT 09

As you all know, we are in some sort of economic wild ride and fashion has been one of the industries that's been hit hard the most by this global recession. So, in an effort to save fashion and possibly get money out of my Gucci wallet (because, as Vera Wang puts it, if people don't shop, people are going to lose their jobs), Vogue has coordinated a series of events in every fashion capital. I still don't know how the event's going to turn out, what I do know is there will be champagne, musical performances, makeovers, raffles and Anna Wintour. It's a night we go broke!  Happy shopping everyone! http://www.fashionsnightout.com/

MAGICAL MYSTERY BLANKET

It's cold, it's raining and I'm suffering from dysmenorrhea. A day like this makes me wish I had a thousand dollars so I can wrap myself up in a Lindsey Thornburg cloak. The limited cloaks (the most this NY-based former model has done is 10 per design) is made of wool lined with silk and comes in different prints and sizes: full-length, mid-length, mini cloak and even children's. It's enough to make Little Red Riding Hood green with envy and make you feel like calling your bros Jacob and Wil Grimm. You know, just hangout in the woods and chill...

ARMOR AMOUR

A tough little trend to arm yourselves with these coming seasons: ARMOR. Feast your eyes on another installment of Christopher Kane x Topshop for fall '09 arriving in our favorite chain of high-street heaven this month.  A photographic print of a ferocious-looking croc splashed across an oversized sleeveless tee and other pieces sprinkled with grommets, scaly sequins and studs all spell reptilian armor fab. Talk about fierce, with a whole lot of wearability. I think we all know by now that you can never go wrong with Topshop, throw in Christopher Kane and you've got a killer combo. Speaking of killer, I'd kill for those embellished footless tights. Topshop, oh please bring it here!

In other news, Ambition to Create Novel Expressions otherwise known as Acne has little touches of armor as well in its Spring '10 collection. Metallic plates and patches here and there toughen up this otherwise neo hippie-ish collection. Camelot meets Woodstock, fresh from the Scandinavian runways.

I'm your little trendwhore - watch out for more.

ONOASFOUR?

It looks like Yoko Ono is in these days. Recently, I just posted some looks from CTRL's lookbook including the I LOVE YOKO shirt, and now John Lennon's woman is in the news again. Ms. Ono is apparently collaborating with avant garde label threeASFOUR (originally ASFOUR). The collection, which is going to be called Iconoclastic, is not only inspired by Yoko but will aslo feature her illutrations. I'm excited to see how this collab is going to turn out.

Meanwhile, while we wait for the Iconoclastic collection, here are a few photos from threeASFOUR's fall 09 collection. A tad futuristic, eh?

CTRL FW09

Helsinki-based indie streetwear label CRTL's fall/winter 09 look book is now up. Love the I Love Yoko/John shirts. And that shot with the guy in the red jacket is very Terry. Very nice...
